Hotel Gladiatori |
Mesaje : |
My wife and I stayed at the Gladiatori for 5 nights. Having read some previous comments about the size of the standard rooms we booked a superior room but on arrival were pleasantly suprised to find we had been upgraded to a deluxe, with a lovely view of the Colleseum. The standard of the room was excellent, full of character, very clean and the bed extremely comfortable. However, while we had the advantage of the view this meant we were on the side of an extremely busy road (which also carried trams) and despite the soundproofed windows, was still very noisy through the day and at night, although did quieten down in the small hours. Breakfast was OK, basic continental fare, although you could ask for freshly cooked eggs and bacon (we did this on one occassion, the eggs were excellent). Coffee was always freshly prepared, again excellent. We only tried the hotel bar once but a bit shocked at paying 24 Euros for two medium italian beers, so we did not do that again, especially as there were some great little bars very close by asking just 4-5 Euros/beer. We do not mind paying a bit more for hotel service but we thought this a bit too steep and as much as we liked the Gladiatori, it is not the London Ritz. The staff were always attentive and extremely helpful, Bruno especially so. The high speed internet service in reception proved very useful and was free. The Gladiatori seems to be in a relatively safe area and is very close to many of the ancient sites, especially the Colleseum, Neros Palace, the Forum and the Trojan Market. Other sights and principle shopping areas are either a modest (15-20min) walk or a short bus hop. The Vatican is about a 15 minute ride on the bus(No. 62 or 64),unbeatable at 1 Euro(one way) although a 10 min walk to get to those particular bus stops. The hotel is also close to the Metro and a number of useful bus stops. We would definitely stay there again, but next time ask for a room away from the traffic, on the highest floor possible (has just four floors). |
