Description This elegant hotel belongs to a different era, when travellers stayed in private homes with well-kept antique furniture. The hotel was a convent of the Dominican sisters), many of the old-fashioned effects, like the wood beam ceilings, 1500s artwork, and antique furnishings, are the result of a recent redecoration. It has all been done with good taste, however, there are still plenty of echoes of the original structure, from exposed brick arches to one room's 16th-century fresco fragments. A couple of rooms have a terrace with nice view but all come with thick patterned rugs scattered over the wood floors, safes, and chenille bedspreads. An octogenarian Irishwoman, Katherine Doyle, still oversees the hotel business, but daily operations are handled with great care and hospitality by her family and friends. By late 2002 they expect to finish work that will open up a few new rooms on the first floor and transfer the reception there alongside a bar and small library.
