If you prefer beer from a bottle, skinhead waiters, shady characters and the enticing possibility of a police raid, head instead for the Bar San Calisto (aka Da Marcello) in Trastevere. Get a dead-cheap Peroni beer or an affogato (ice-cream drowned in liqueur), grab a table and watch the parade of Vespa-riding ragazzi (young boys), dodgy geezers and alternative types, a scene which really picks up around midnight.
